The overnight sleeper: a romantic classic

Argentina has one of the finest long-distance bus cultures in the world, and the overnight journey from Buenos Aires across the Pampas to the foothills of the Andes is a legendary travel rite. The top tiers are closer to airline business class than a standard bus: fully reclining 180° flatbeds, hot dinners, breakfast, attendants, and complimentary Malbec.

Duration and route timing

About 14 to 16 hours. Buses typically depart Retiro Terminal in Buenos Aires between 7:00 PM and 9:30 PM and arrive at the central Mendoza bus terminal around 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM the next morning. Because you travel while sleeping, it replaces a hotel night.

Bus seat classes explained

Booking platforms list distinct service categories. Here is what to expect:

• Semicama (Semi-bed): Reclines roughly 120°–130°. The most budget-friendly, but not recommended for a 14-hour journey.
• Cama / Cama Ejecutivo (Full bed): Reclines 150°–160° with wide leather seats and calf rests. The reliable mainstream choice.
• Cama Suite / VIP / Suite Premium: 180° fully flat horizontal bed with privacy curtains, USB charging ports, hot meals, and beverage service. This is the best sleep on wheels.

Buses depart in Buenos Aires from Terminal de Ómnibus de Retiro (central, easily reached by taxi or subway) and arrive at Terminal de Ómnibus de Mendoza, located just 10 minutes from downtown Mendoza.
