Vinitaly 2026: Argentine Wines Surprise European Trade

Wine glasses set out for tasting at a trade exhibition
47 Argentine producers at Vinitaly 2026 — up from 31, with pre-orders reportedly doubling.

Vinitaly 2026, the world's largest wine trade fair, closed in Verona last week with record attendance — 90,000 trade visitors from 140 countries. For the Argentine pavilion, organized by Wines of Argentina, it was a landmark year: 47 producers showed, up from 31 in 2025, and informal estimates suggest pre-orders doubled.

The big stories at the Argentine pavilion were three. First, the dramatic showing of Cabernet Franc from the Uco Valley — buyers from Belgium, the Netherlands, and the UK placed early orders for high-altitude Cab Francs from Andeluna, Mendel, and Pulenta Estate. “European buyers know Cabernet Franc from Loire,” explained Pulenta's export director. “What we're showing them is a New World expression that doesn't try to imitate. It just is what it is.”

Second, growing interest in Patagonian wines — both Pinot Noir and high-altitude Malbec from Río Negro. Italian buyers in particular showed interest in cooler-climate Argentine wines as their domestic regions warm.

Third, the natural wine movement. A small grouping of low-intervention producers from Calingasta (San Juan) and Tupungato (Uco Valley) drew sustained attention from buyers focused on the natural wine retail circuit.

Notable absences: only 3 Salta producers showed (vs. expectation of 8), and the Cafayate region was under-represented despite strong recent vintages. This is expected to change at the next major trade event, ProWein 2027 in Düsseldorf.
