El Malbec argentino arrasa con los máximos honores en los Decanter World Wine Awards 2026

Four Best in Show medals, 27 Platinum — Argentine Malbec's strongest DWWA showing yet.

For the third consecutive year, Argentine Malbec dominated the prestigious Decanter World Wine Awards (DWWA) — taking 4 Best in Show medals and 27 Platinum awards. The 2026 results, released this week, confirm what wine writers have been observing: Mendoza is no longer the “value alternative” to Bordeaux. It's an equal player.

The Best in Show winners included Catena Adrianna Mundus Bacillus Terrae 2020 (Gualtallary, Uco Valley), Zuccardi Aluvional Gualtallary 2021, Susana Balbo Brioso 2020, and Achaval Ferrer Finca Bella Vista 2020. All four are single-vineyard cuvées from the Uco Valley — confirming the region's role as the country's premium epicenter.

What's significant isn't just the medals — it's the price tier. Three of the four Best in Show wines retail at $80+ in international markets. For decades, Argentine Malbec lived in the $15–30 sweet spot. Now it competes in the same conversation as first-growth Bordeaux.

“Argentina has earned its seat at the table. These wines aren't following European templates — they're defining what high-altitude New World terroir can do.”— Andrew Jefford, DWWA Co-Chair

The 2026 results also marked a strong showing for Argentine Cabernet Franc (12 Platinum medals), Torrontés (8 Golds), and a surprising performance from Patagonian Pinot Noir (3 Platinum from Río Negro and Neuquén producers).
